Microsoft takes out a patent for RSS applications

Microsoft has recently taken out two patents for RSS applications. RSS has been developed as a “Scripting News Format in 1997 by Dave Winner. In 1999 this system was applied on a large scale by Netscape. RSS is mainly used for weblogs and new websites. RSS files are principally produced in association with publicationsoftware by the person that does the maintenance of the website.

Both patentappliances are pertaining to the management and reading of the RSS information. The first patent describes the technology that is capable in tracing RSS-feeds on the internet and from there by the webbrowser taking on a subscription.

The second patent describes a system that is converting RSS-feeds in that capicity, so that the diverse applications and users can read and manage these feeds. Dave Winner, the designer of RSS expects that on the long term Microsoft will ask a fee for using the RSS patents.
